Without going into to much detail, the Intra-Aortic balloon pump is a specialist piece of equipment used to aid the transfer of seriously ill heart patients. As it’s only used on very rare occasions, Visualis were commissioned by the West Yorkshire Cardiovascular Network to produce a film that explained how the pump was used - and how it is transferred in and out ambulances with the patient. We interviewed a surgeon and an ambulance driver to make sure the correct procedures were outlined, and inter-cut their explanations with specially filmed drama sequences to further enforce the message.
